Daan Wensing

Daan is the CEO and chair of the Executive Board of IDH, the Sustainable Trade Initiative, a social enterprise that works with businesses, investors, governments, and civil society to realize sector, supply chain and landscape transformation for sustainable production and trade in global value chains.

Before becoming IDH’s CEO Daan was IDH’s Global Director Landscapes overseeing 20+ landscapes in twelve countries and directing the implementation of the commodity programs on soy, palm oil and tropical timber.

Daan has a strong passion for sustainable development and a conviction that economy and ecology can be balanced to support human development and safeguard our planet. He works by partnering with and mobilizing the private sector as a powerful force in partnership with governments and other stakeholders for the transformation of our economy.

Prior to joining IDH, Daan was the managing director of the Leaders for Nature network and head of IUCN NL’s business and biodiversity programs. Before joining IUCN NL, Daan co-founded the company Triple E and was the director of one of its business units, developing business models for biodiversity and ecosystems. Daan has a MSc in Biology from Utrecht University and a Master’s in Science and Business from Utrecht University.
